Tweed – Smiths Falls
Data Driven Indoor Production
Tweed is housed in the famous former Hershey Chocolate factory at 1 Hershey Drive, the campus comprises 40 acres of land. Tweed occupies 168,000 square feet of licensed production space, plus office space where Canopy’s head office drives the vision forward. It is a data-driven, automated and lean operation, housing an R&D facility, oil extraction infrastructure, and in-house lab. Precise climate controlled spaces for each stage of cannabis production, from clone to cured bud, allows for the highest quality and widest variety of product in the sector.
Tweed’s Commercial License for its facility in Smiths Falls, Ontario will be up for renewal on July 20, 2018. Tweed’s license to sell cannabis extracts was granted February 23, 2016 and was renewed on January 13, 2017. The license will be up for renewal again on July 13, 2018. Tweed’s Commercial License covers 168,000 square feet of its Smiths Falls facility. The license was amended to allow the production and sale of 6,000 kilograms of dried cannabis, reflecting Tweed’s present built-out production capacity of 12 climate controlled indoor growing rooms. Tweed has completed 12 of an eventual 39 growing rooms (of similar size), and the related vegetation, nutrient delivery and production infrastructure as is required to support the planned for 39 room configuration. Additionally, an in-house laboratory and R&D area, cannabis oil extraction infrastructure and a high-level security vault exist in the Smiths Falls facility as well.
The location has a 53-room configuration and an in-house laboratory. It is estimated that the current space at Tweed’s Smiths Falls facility can support the production of approximately 11,000 kilograms per year.
The total footprint of the existing Smiths Falls facility, at over 472,000 square feet, can support a significant increase in licensed production capacity. In addition, the 42-acre site at 1 Hershey Drive has significant undeveloped land that can support the construction of additional buildings.
In November 2019, Health Canada granted the company a license for its 150,000-square-foot beverage facility, located at the Smith Falls headquarters. The facility will make 11 beverages during its first wave of production.
Tweed Farms – Niagara-on-the-Lake
Tweed Farms is the largest marijuana-producing greenhouse in the world, certainly legally that we’ve ever come across, with over 350,000 square feet of licensed cannabis production space. The greenhouse is now being expanded to about 1 million square feet. The scale and the passive processes allow the Farm to produce environmentally friendly cannabis at an extremely competitive cost per gram. The Farm combines traditional and state-of-the art agricultural techniques, using the natural power of the sun and recycled rainwater to nurture genetically identical plants produced in the on-site tissue culture propagation lab.
Tweed Farms in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario is comprised of a greenhouse facility that is 375,000 square feet, on approximately 22.9 acres, of which 350,000 square feet represents the greenhouse and 25,000 square feet is used for storage, shipping, and offices. The facility received a GMP certificate in June 2017.
Tweed Farms’ license allows Tweed Farms to produce, possess and ship 1,200 kilograms of dried marijuana at its facilities in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. Tweed Farms’ Commercial License is up for renewal July 13, 2018. Consistent with Health Canada’s process, Tweed Farms will seek to expand the licensed capacity and permission to sell based upon actual production from the initial 1,200 kilograms. It is estimated that the 350,000 square foot greenhouse can support the production of up to 15,000 kilograms per year.
