Business Development Officer
This is a full-time (37.5 – 44 hours per week), permanent position.
PharmaCan Capital is a holding company for Licensed Producers under Canada’s Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (“ACMPR”). With interests in five licensed producers and two license applicants, PharmaCan is focused on building iconic brands providing patients with compassionate, personalized care.

Area of Specialization

  • Regulatory research; market research; business analysis; corporate development; investor relations; regulated cannabis industry

Educational Requirements

  • Law degree (JD or LLB) from an accredited law school
  • Graduate degree in Business; focus on international business an asset

Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience supporting corporate clients with research on the regulated cannabis industry on an international, domestic, and state/provincial level
  • 1+ years of experience in buy-side investment analysis or M&A experience in venture capital or private equity
  • 1+ years of experience in corporate legal advisory services
  • Compliance experience with the TSX Venture Exchange; including direct communication with regulators
  • Operational experience in vertically integrated cannabis cultivation, production and distribution

Skills

  • In-depth understanding of regulatory frameworks governing cannabis markets on an international and domestic level; specific familiarity with the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (the “ACMPR”)
  • Ability to provide effective business analysis accounting for complex regulatory considerations
  • Ability to oversee legal functions in operations, regulatory compliance and contract review, drafting and negotiation
  • Familiarity with securities law, regulatory reporting and SRO exchange policies applicable to publicly traded companies in either Canada or the US
  • Familiarity with corporate documentary and record-keeping requirements
  • Robust awareness of developments within the domestic and international cannabis industry
  • Operations experience in cultivation, production and distribution of pharmaceutical-grade cannabis governed by the ACMPR
  • Experience dealing with multiple stakeholders including management, investors and professional advisors
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently while prioritizing competing demands
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including availability on evenings and weekends
  • Required Language: English

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Market and industry research and analysis requiring specialized knowledge of various regulated cannabis markets (Canada, US, Australia, Germany, etc.) with a focus on Canadian and American markets
  • Domestic and international regulatory research
  • Identification and analysis of potential strategic initiatives and business development opportunities
  • Liaising with outside counsel, and facilitating corporate legal functions within the organization
  • Drafting, review and negotiation of various contractual instruments
  • Investor relations support
  • Corporate secretarial duties – maintenance of corporate documents and records
  • Regulatory filings and execution of warrant/option exercises
  • Special projects as necessary

Location of Work

  • This position is primarily located in Stayner, Ontario, with the ability to work from the Company’s Toronto office when required
  • Applicants must be willing to travel up to 30% of the time

Compensation

  • Annual salary: $73,000 CAD
  • Discretionary bonus based on company performance
  • 2 weeks vacation per year
  • Transitional housing in shared corporate house for 4 weeks (if selected applicant is relocating more than 400 miles)
