On January 26th, MJ Freeway, the Colorado-based cannabis industry software company, announced that Tao Capital Partners had invested an undisclosed amount into the company. Matt Bigliardi, Director of Investments for Tao Capital Partners, joined the Board of Directors at that time.  Tao Capital, which indicates that it invests in “technology, alternative energy and transportation, healthcare, education, sustainable food & agriculture, consumer, and real estate businesses that have a positive impact,” lists among its portfolio investments Tesla, Solar City, Warby Parker and PAX Labs, the maker of the PAX vaporizer.  Joby Pritzker, who is Managing Director of Investments, has deep ties to the cannabis industry.

Today, MJ Freeway announced that it had closed its $8mm Series B financing round, with Roger McNamee and Tao Capital Partners among the investors.  McNamee is a co-founder of private equity firms Silver Lake Partners and Elevation Partners.

As an early investor in the company, we continue to be impressed by the MJ Freeway team and products, which promote regulatory compliance, accountability and professionalism within the nascent and rapidly evolving legal cannabis industry
