Restrictive CBD Laws Lead Indiana University Student to Launch Cannabis Startup

Garrett Greller Uncle Buds

Garrett Greller, 20, a student at Indiana University, has suffered from crippling juvenile arthritis since he was 14. In high school, he became a medical cannabis patient after exhausting all other treatments, including weekly injections that cost up to $2500. Greller found that a CBD topical salve provided him relief, but he was no longer able to legally access the product when he left California to attend school in Indiana.

Over Thanksgiving break last year, he figured out a solution: Using CBD from industrial hemp to create a salve that wouldn’t be in violation of federal laws. His product, Uncle Bud’s, combines CBD with emu oil, olive oil, coconut oil, and methyl salicylate and can be sold in all states. He launched Uncle Bud’s via an Indiegogo campaign on July 5th and has already raised over $10K.
