Illinois released sales figures for adult-use cannabis in May today, which is a bit earlier than they did for April. The state’s adult-use cannabis sales were up 2.1% sequentially to $149.8 million, a decrease on a per-day basis of 1.2%. The year-over-year growth was 2.4%, worse than the gain in January but better than the declines in February and March and the gain in April:
Units sold increased by 9.0% from a year ago, suggesting lower prices or substitution of lower-priced products by consumers. Units sold fell 0.7% sequentially despite there being one more day.
After increasing 106% in 2021, 13% in 2022 and then 5% in 2023, year-to-date adult-use sales were up 5.4% in 2024 to $1.72 billion. So far in 2025, they are up just 0.8%. During May, sales to non-residents were 20.9%:
The state separately releases sales from its medical program, and the release for April showed that sales fell 1.6% sequentially to $19.7 million, which was down 13.2% from a year ago. They have not yet released the May data, which is very odd for the state.
