Surna CEO is Keen on Company's Cannabis Cultivation Technologies

Stephen Keen at NCS

Stephen Keen, the CEO of Boulder-based Surna, Inc. (OTC: SRNA), spoke at the National Cannabis Summit in Denver on October 12th.  Keen, who merged Hydro Innovations, which he founded with his wife Brandy, into Surna in 2014, was recently promoted to CEO from VP of R&D. The presentation, “Climate Control and Technology Trends for Cultivation,” touched upon the importance of climate control and contrasted Surna’s “process cooling” with traditional “comfort cooling.”  Keen explained the advantages of the company’s chillers relative to traditional HVAC.

While Surna’s robust sales ($2.5mm in the first half of 2015) have been generated from its HVAC products, Keen suggested that its reflector technology will be a big driver of future growth.  The company offers three different models, including water-cooled, vented and forced-air, and the bottom-line is more light produced that is more focused on the plants than using other technologies.  Keen also shared his vision of the Surna Hybrid, a growing room that takes the best of both indoor and greenhouse technology.  Keen discussed Surna’s interest in LED technology and automation as well.
